A well known fashion retailer has a Design Manager position available for the Lingerie division. 

Description Duties (including but not limited to): 
  • Identify trial opportunities in current season for future season
  • Develop concepts, storyboard, sketches and drawings of new designs to be considered within the groups in line with the Group product Strategy and design direction
  • Ensure that the proposed designs across all the respective design teams are aligned interms of balance of colour/pattern etc. when the customer sees the product in stores
  • Review fabric and material options for the season and select appropriate materials for designs / product development
  • Determine colours for the season
  • Develop seasonal colour boards in line with product direction
  • Determine Silhouettes for Season
  • Conduct inspirational shopping / analyse designer collections
  • Understand upcoming silhouette shifts/changes for upcoming season and translate into commercial proposals
  • Travel to fairs, trade shows and supply base as part of the design and product development cycle
  • Design Direction
  • Develop design direction in prototype sample or CAD/photo sample form (continuity items)
  • Approve and sign-off on design direction and proposed continuity items in a season Clothing
  • Develop product spec pack/tech pack
  • Brief ideas, sketches and initial sample requests and costing sheets to relevant suppliers (good, better, best pricing strategy) in line with sourcing strategy
  • Design product for continuity and selected items dependent upon supplier capability
  • Conduct supplier visits to ensure sample accuracy and review supplier prototypes based on product specifications/tech packs/brief
  • Determine initial design direction for packaging e.g. swing tickets and labelling for new initiatives
  • Develop design brief
  • Present season, including styles, looks, themes and fabrics
  • Present Season, continuity and selected items, opportunities in line with strategy and design direction
  • Review and approve design brief samples and agree continuity items, volume input and input items for season.
  • Ensure consistent taste level across relevant Buying Group
  • Build relationships with identified suppliers
  • Build partnerships with Buying, Planning, and Sourcing and Technology and work in an integrated way to optimise the design capability within the Groups.
  • Liaise with the Buying managers and communicate with Design team to ensure all are working together to achieve the same goals
  • Manage the alignment of the Design critical paths (each area of design team) and the group ensure on time delivery of the Merchandise cycle within the Group
  • Develop, motivate, inspire and lead the relevant group's Designers and provide ongoing feedback to enhance performance and deliver the seasonal product direction.
  • Ensure adequate succession planning and a talent pipeline and manage the achievement of EE staffing targets.
  • Manage design activities in line with agreed performance measures and operating budgets for the design team

Education Minimum requirements: 
  • Relevant Design diploma / degree
  • 8-10 years Design experience
