Job description

Key performance areas

Support existing buying team by learning on the job

  • Work on a rotational basis with existing buyers learning all areas of the fashion business as an Omni-channel retailer
  • Complete various projects to illustrate understanding
  • Assist on shoot to ensure process runs smoothly

Update and maintain trend information 

  • Keep up-to-date on trends and feed this info into the buying team whilst ensuring commercial viability is top of mind
  • Create seasonal trend boards
  • Create and maintain local trip as well as online shop reports

Supplier liaison

  • Ensure consistent and thorough communication is kept with suppliers
  • Follow up with suppliers on samples/fits/prices/swatches/etc.
  • Manage production meetings to ensure bulk is running on time

Effectively negotiate and influence internally and externally

  • Negotiate effectively internally with creative, marketing and digital teams
  • Be able to present with confidence and use logic to back up proposals
  • Have a voice to present own opinions effectively 

Work with quality technologist on fit approvals

  • Work with QA to ensure detailed comments are taken and reported back on to minimise fit approvals
  • Return fit samples timeously and stay on top of processes and timelines

Ad-hoc projects and tasks

  • Assist with the implementation and optimisation of ad-hoc projects, tasks and research assignments as requested from line management


 

Requirements

Qualifications and accreditations

  • Matric (grade 12)
  • Clothing design diploma or similar tertiary education


 Experience and skills

  • One to two years’ experience in buying clothing
  • Knowledge of footwear and menswear buying would be an advantage
  • Commercial eye for fashion - not high-end
  • Financial acumen appropriate for position
  • MS Office proficient (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
