My client a large retailer in Cape Town has a exciting new vacancy for a Central buying manager.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

1.Ensuring effective implementation and use/governance of buying processes and standard operating procedures

2. Delivering ongoing analysis and reporting and provide strategic insights on key business indicators for product related information e.g. promotional items, company margin, sell-offs

3. Co-ordinating and taking ownership of system specifications (aligned with buying processes)

4. Representing the Buying function and processes in Company projects and Company strategic initiatives, ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration

5. Leading & developing the Central Buying Team by implementing sound people management practices, employee relations and a climate and culture of high performance.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of the retail merchandise cycle with regards to Buying, Merchandise Planning, Supply Chain, Marketing and Operations
  • Knowledge of company buying strategies
  • Understanding of retail business systems and related processes
  • A comprehensive knowledge/understanding of SA's retail clothing market, customers and competitors
  • Excellent people management practices, policies & procedures
  • Strong business acumen
  • Sound strategic thinking skills
  • Exceptional planning, organising & time management skills
  • A sound ability to analyse and work with numerical data
  • Good judgment, together with strong problemsolving and decision-making abilities
  • The ability to influence across various levels and functions within the business
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within, as well as outside the company
  • Merchant skills & a sound commercial mentality
  • A flair/eye for product and building ranges to current trends

EXPERIENCE:

  • Buying and/or Merchandise Planning experience of which at least 5 years is at a senior level within a clothing/footwear/homeware retail environment.
  • Previous senior managerial experience to understand the processes, product strategies and philosophies of a business.
  • Integral understanding of the Clothing Retail Cycle & Buying process.
  • Experience in developing product and supplier strategies and implementing strategic interventions in a rapidly changing global and local context.

QUALFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 Certificate/Matric is essential
  • A relevant degree /qualification in Fashion, Textile Design /Clothing Production/ Product Development /Merchandising, or a related field
