We’re looking for a clever, creative fashion designer with great ideas. You will need to be a capable collaborator to help develop a strong brand vision and product. You will need to have excellent fashion design skills, have knowledge or a strong interest in the European fashion market, trends and styles, and you will need to be a real team player.

Skills & responsibilities:

Responsible and accountable for the design requirements across menswear and womenswear collections to meet the business needs. Working closely with the head of design, production manager and with the sales department to ensure all products are designed and manufactured in-line with the brands direction, price points and critical path.

Designing products which are on brand, aligned to our the target audience / consumer, price point, sales history and brand vision Using appropriate and relevant research to form a basis for the product range each season; including themes, colour palettes, silhouettes, fabric, yarn and pattern direction.

Understands and takes responsibility for meeting critical path deadlines in relation to design Producing designs using computer-aided design programme (CAD) Anticipate designs that will appeal to customers, trends and enhance our South African art prints.

Creating moodboards based on market and trend research, identifying key trends and incorporating these into designs that target our customers Ensuring you stay up to date with trends, changes in the market and competitor activity.

Analysing and keeping up to date with trends in fabrics, colours, prints and shapes.

Understand blocks and measurements for designs in order to get a right first time sample.

Understanding of fabric and garment construction.

Pattern making skills advantageous.

As a designer at Rhumaa you need to have your own design software and equipment.

You are a native English speaker and sound and willing communicator.

You have knowledge and/or experience about/with the European fashion market.

You are a real team player.

You can work on your own and independently.

You want to grow within an international team.

You are willing to go beyond the call of duty at times.

 

You will work on a freelance basis and start with a 6 month contract. You will work from our office in the Cape Town CBD.

Salary is based on experience.
