3 Helpful lessons that will help you if you work in a startup environment
We all know that the lifestyle inside a startup company can be extremely different from the one at a more established and commercial company. You can't compare the work environment inside a big company like Intel the same as working inside a small office with couple other entrepreneurs. If you are in the situation, or know somebody who will soon be in it, we have a few tips that will save them work disagreements and can help make the environment a lot more friendly.
1.Be vulnerable. Of course that you may feel like this may cause other co workers to think that you are not fit for a job, especially if you come from previously working in a big company where everyone seemed to have their work under control, but this is not the case in a startup. Many times, it is extremely likely that others are feeling just the way you are and never should you be afraid to share your emotions. Also, if you don’t express what you are worried about, it is likely that others will sense a tense and demotivating energy, so remember to be transparent and share your ideas, even if you are uncertain of what you are doing or what to do next.
2. Don’t underestimate the power of a group. Remember that you are in the company for a reason, every single employee is valuable and trusted to make a certain area of the business grow. There is no problem with asking the person next to you on their input on a certain subject, or trying to lend someone else a hand on their work. Move as a group and remember that 10 heads think better than 1, and this will also help you reach your goal faster as well.
3. Respect other people’s time. This is extremely important when working with a group of people. There can’t be anything worse than taking valuable time off your day to participate in a meeting or event, and have others arrive late. It’s not only respectful but unmotivating as well, and chances are, next time you won’t arrive with the best attitude. Make sure that you respect hours that are set as well as due dates.
