Adenike’s fashion love had begun wishing very earl ages of her life. She grew up in West Africa observing her mother tailor, and learned from her all there was to know about making her own clothing. She found out that fashion had become a huge part of her life, she not only made her own clothing, but had grown a reputation of having excellent taste. So much that even her friends and family would turn to her when they had a special occasion that they had to dress for.

As every good business idea, her business Ruff’n’tumble, was started because of a necessity. Adenike, now as a mother, noticed that there was a huge market gap for women who wanted to dress their kids in cute baby clothing, but either found it was too expensive (often this was the clothing that was imported) or that the African garments were made of very poor quality and limited designs.  She started designing her own stuff for her kids to wear and it was then when she knew it had great potential. Back in 1996, her idea was still so new that she would sell the clothing that she made out of her car to neighbors. As her name grew and people spread the world about her great clothing line, she was one day invited to a startup event. Since she had never though of naming her brand she went with “Ruff’n’Tumble”, a name that described what her kids loved doing.

Adenike is a woman that brings us inspiration. Even after having her successful brand up and running, she decided to grow as an individual and started taking a business class. She enrolled at the Lagos Business School to study business management and customer service. In her own positive words, it has all been worth it because "It has been a long journey, getting here has been challenging; it has been full of challenges as well as triumphs.  That is why we have something to celebrate.” This is an interesting idea that we should all learn from because it shows how thanks to the effort we put to get through hard times, those successful moments feel much more rewarding. Today, Adenike’s work has definitely payed of since she has several stores and is now looking to get into Ghana’s market as well.
