Grass-Fields was founded by twin sisters, Christelle and Michele, who grew up in Cameroon and developed an interest in fashion at an early age. Christelle, who graduated with an MBA in the UK and had always planned on pursuing a career in accounting, quickly felt disheartened when she realized that, taking on a job in financing would force her to give up a big part of her personality: her flair for fashion. Upon landing her first interview with a London accounting firm – one she aced – she was told that the company’s strict dress policy would prohibit her from wearing the African print blazers and dresses that provided her with the confidence needed to succeed in her day to day life. This experience derailed her plans and made way for an entirely different professional career path – in fashion.

Upon returning to Cameroon, Christelle and Michele founded Grass-Fields (formerly known as The African Shop) with one simple goal in mind: to provide fashionistas such as themselves, with beautiful African prints and fabrics that can be worn for any occasion.
