How to set up your first home office
With the new year coming close, we are pretty sure that you have exciting things coming up in 2019. One of these, for many, is the beginning of a personal business coming together, and this means that personal fun time is now going to become work-on-my-own-startup- time. Although this may be everyone’s dream, and being able to work from home canb ring a million benefits, it can also be tricky if you don’t set up a special space for your work.
Experts recommend setting a special part of your home to become your new office. This is because the distractions of being in the comfort of your own home may bring a few setbacks, like being so comfortable in bed (while working) that you turn on the tv and fall asleep, or simply can’t get yourself in the mood to work. Also, if you don’t set up a space for your project, then your mental health could be in danger, since working and free time will no longer have a line that divides them and you could become a workaholic that doesn't do anything other than work.
Here are the most important steps you must follow when planning your first home office:
-
Make a list of the musts it has to include. Do you need a big or small computer? Do you need space to draw? Organize the space according to your needs in order to be clear on what you must purchase.
-
Draw a picture. After choosing the space of your home that fits best, make a simple picture so that you can imagine how this space will look, and what it’s missing.
-
Get appropriate lighting. With the long work hours (some of them at night!) you will spend here, its important that you have proper lighting to work.
-
Get an “office Number”. This will allow you not only to seem more professional when adding an office number on emails (that isn’t your cel), but it will also allow you to separate work from pleasure calls.
-
Establish hours and set the clock! Make a schedule and calendar of how and when you are going to work here. After defining this and promising to stick to it, place a big clock so that you are able to keep track of your work hours!
