Janet + George, a business created to help African designers
Linda Nuamah has always been a big fan of the African continent. After a trip to her native Ghana, Janet noticed something that troubled her mind. Why, if the African continent is so rich in things like natural resources, kind people with touching hearts, a huge amount of creativity, a strong culture and a growing young population, why was it that the continent remained as one of the poorest continents in the world? She did not stay with this inside of her but instead, decided to create a business that would help her country and continent grow. After all, she knew the real potential behind it.
Linda had a clear objective in mind; she wanted to see a change in the fashion industry and around the world. She had recently read about the problems marginalized groups were having and wanted to do something to help fix the situation. Her main drive was to give a solution for the people that so many of us hear about; those living on less than a dollar per day, living in hunger, and those failing with their attempts of taking their families out of poverty.
With this in mind, Linda Nuamah created Janet + George, a page that promotes African designers and that serves them as a platform to showcase their work. “We partner with the best emerging African designers around the world to bring you the best selection of high quality, African inspired fashion, made and sourced on the continent.” She says when asked about her business.
Today, Janet + George has helped many upcoming designers and will hopefully continue to do so thanks to the company’s mission of empowering these talented designers with the right tools to enter the global market. With this tool, hopefully many can grow their companies, create more jobs and help take Africa to a whole new level.
