Mustafa Hassanali – Designer from Tanzania
As a fashion Guru, Mustafa Hassanali is one of the leading and popular designers in Tanzania. He combines perfectly Tanzanian cultural heritage with the avant – garde, couture styles.
He used to be a professional medical doctor but he soon found out his hobby for fashion. Hoyce Temu – Miss Tanzania in 1999 – worn his first creation with his signature on the dress. His fashion career also began since this event and he started to play an important part in Tanzania Fashion Industry.
Hassanali not only focuses on his own creations, but he also concerned about his target audience´s needs. Beside being a successful designers, he created Swahili Fashion Week in 2008, a platform for potential designers who wanted to showcase all their collections. It gave the stepping stone for Tanzanian Fashion Industry as well as transferred a speech for Swahili Africa and other regional countries.
Africa Fashion Week London welcomes over 30 African designers and they will showcase brand new collections. Furthermore, fashion goers will have the chance to purchase rare African fabrics or African inspired merchandises.
One of the unique aspect from Hassanali´s persona is that his initiative combines both fashion and health. He supports ¨Breast Cancer Awareness¨, ¨Violence against Women¨ and Zanzibar Mental Hospital in Zanzibar. Since the launching of fashionable sojourn, many women choose him to design their wedding dress and statement event gowns.
Mustafa was named as one of the Africa Top Ten Male designer by UK's NEW AFRICAN WOMEN and Kenya Airways MSAFIRI magazine named him COUNT OF COUTURE. He is the only designer from East Africa to be featured on Forbes Africa.
