Nigeria’s Adara Foundation to Host Free Adire-Batik Training Screening Next Week

It is no secret that fashion is a powerful tool and, often, a catalyst for change. Fashion is not only a lifestyle, but an opportunity to create the change we want to see in the world through better purchasing choices, attention to eco-friendly products and materials, fair wages and equal opportunity. Over the last few years, the fashion industry has finally recognized the many female-led brands and businesses swooping the trend-scene and, as such, is continuing to push them further towards the limelight and the international market.

To nurture a successful and creative future for women working low-income jobs in Lagos, the Adara Foundation has teamed with TAN by Tiffany Amber, to create EWARE (Empowering Women in Arts and Related Enterprises), a flagship skills acquisition program aimed at training local women in the art of quality tie-dye and batik printing. Since its launch in 2017, EWARE has trained more than 200 women who were guided by Nigeria’s leading textile artists.

January 14th to 16th, 2019, will see the screening process for this years’ program take place at the Adara Foundation office in Lagos, from 9AM onwards. Selected candidates will be able to benefit from a free 10-week training program which will teach them the ins and outs of Adire and Batik printing to a professional standard, which, in turn, will increase their job opportunities within the local and national fashion industry. Participants will be provided with all the necessary materials, free lunch and a transport stipend at the end of each training day.
