Here are our favourite picks from Congo.

6Kasso by Kazadi Sikasso

Playing with various indigenous materials such as linen and indigo (Mali), cotton (Burkina Faso), raffia and shuka from the Massai people of Kenya, stylist and fashion designer, Kazadi Sikasso, is bringing African textures and materials to the fashion world with his brand 6Kasso. Sikasso’s designs offer the full package as the majority of his colourful, afro-boho dresses come paired with stylish handbags and unique hair accessories.

Uchawi by Laëtitia Kandolo

Known for having dressed the likes of Beyoncé, Kanye West and Rhianna, Congolese designer Laëticia Kandolo is making her mark on the fashion world. Paying homage to Kinshasa, her debut line, Uchawi, utilizes the patterns and colours she associates with the city’s traditions and culture. Uchawi works together with a Kinshasa based fashion schoolx and offers employment opportunities to its graduates, ensuring a brighter future for an upcoming generation of fashion designers.

Marleine Couture by Marlene Minimbu

Marlene Minimbu’s brand, Marleine Couture, has it all: sheer elegance in the form of evening gowns with cuts inspired by the Spanish Sevilliana dresses, casual but striking day-dresses with African print details and vibrant colours, and sexy corsets that can be mixed and matched with her hip-hugging skirts or just your regular pair of jeans.
