5 New Years’ Resolutions for Entrepreneurs
Play as Hard as you Work
Even though the saying goes, “work hard, play hard”, we often tend to forget about the playing hard. Freelancers and entrepreneurs in the throes of launching their start-ups are particularly guilty of this. In 2019, make it a rule to play as hard as you work. If you spend the entire week working over time you also deserve to spend the entire weekend playing. That’s the rule. Stick to it.
Pay More Attention to Your Posture
If you found yourself plagued by office-induced back pain more than three times this year, it’s time to make a change before you end causing yourself some serious damage. Pay more attention to your posture by repeatedly checking in on your shoulders – drop them! – and your spine, your neck and the way you position your hands when you’re typing. Treat yourself to regular massages and consider investing in a quality office chair.
Grow Your Community
It’s hard to keep up a good social life and business network when you’re working all the time. Make it a priority to attend more events that will connect you with like-minded people and consider it as a two birds with one stone scenario – you never know when you might make a great business contact at a purely social event, and you never know when you might meet your new BFF at a business event. Either way, you can never go wrong with growing your community – on a personal and on a business level.
Go Eco
The climate is rapidly changing and our natural environment and the animals and people inhabiting it, is suffering immensely. Make it your New Years’ resolution to go as eco as you possibly can both in your personal and professional life. Buy your food locally and organically; switch to recyclable materials and invest in natural energy sources if you can. No matter how small the changes you make, it will make an impact, so – ditch straws, avoid plastic packaging, use eco-friendly inks, fabrics and dyes.
Don’t Lose Hope
If 2018 didn’t go the way you had hoped it would, don’t let it get you down. It’s been a difficult year for many, but with the right attitude, a supportive community and most importantly trust – in ourselves, and others – you can work towards an inspiring 2019. Never lose hope! Building a brand, an empire, or simply growing as a person is challenging for everyone. Be patient with yourself and approach the new year with confidence and a can-do spirit – the two most important things you’ll need to succeed in the new year.
