Sim Shagaya is a multiple entrepreneur from Nigeria, who takes the position of a CEO of Konga Online Shopping Mall Ltd., founded in July 2012, plus he is the former head of Google Africa and an executive chairman and founder of DealDay Ltd., which is Nigeria’s biggest daily discount store.

However, among all those, we are going to stick with the Konga Online Shopping Mall, which has become Nigeria’s biggest online shopping mall, with its revenue exceeding over 450 percent in growth throughout 2013 and following to 2014. As Shagaya says himself, he seeks to make Konga “a powerful force for the economic growth of Africa”.

The online platform sells a wide range of products, as: tablets, phones, computers and their related accessories, other electronics, fashion, beauty and home products, personal care and health, products for babies and kid’s toys, sport and fitness, stationery and books, music, movies, games, and lastly, automotive and industrial product variations.

What is more, “Yakata” is Nigeria’s equivalent to the recent past Black Friday, which brought up to $3.5 million in sales for the company back in 2014, making a 1.140 percent difference from last year (2013). The company is in great shape, as it has also raised $100 million in investments since its launch in 2012.

The Konga Online Shopping Mall has also launched a SellerHQ back in 2014, as means for small and medium-sized retailers to serve as a marketplace. I guess it could be compared to such big e-commerce players as Amazon or Ebay, in terms of function of the platform. The traders register on site and sell their products through the Konga’s channel. They also have their own logistics company, called the KExpress, which was also started in 2014, as third-party couriers could not manage the daily order volume of Konga.

Shagaya accomplished all of this by being smart (don’t mind the bachelor’s and two master’s degrees), because as Nelson Mandela has once said, - “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”, and that especially applies to the development of the community.
