Weekend Project: Creative DIY Ideas for Your Home Office
One of the biggest advantages of having a home office – other than the fact that you can work at your own pace – is the freedom of being able to decorate it to your own liking. In most commercial offices, the only decorative features allowed are framed photos and potted plants, anything else is considered too distracting and loud. In your home office, you’re the boss, so go all out on all the decorative features you’ve always wanted around you for inspiration. Here are a few fun DIY ideas for your home office, all of which will make for a great weekend project!
Clipboard Wall Art
These days, we hardly use clipboards anymore since it’s so much easier to just take notes on our phones or iPads we can then simply save on a cloud. If you still have some clipboards laying around from “back in the day”, put them to good use by using them as wall art. Spray paint the clip in gold or any other prominent colour that matches your office’s look and let it dry. Once it’s ready, find a quote, picture, poem or anything else that resonates with you and clip it on before mounting it on the wall above your desk. This will create a lovely little feature wall if you mount several clipboards of different sizes.
Chalkboard Wallpaper
As a fashion designer, sketching and doodling is a big part of your working day. Imagine how amazing it would be to have an entire wall surface for quick sketching purposes that can be altered and washed away easily to make room for the next big idea – wouldn’t that be fantastic? Then what are you waiting for? Invest in chalkboard wallpaper, several sticks of chalk and a sponge and you’re good to go. This is also a great feature for commercial offices as it will allow you to draw life-sized sketches for walk-in clients, allowing them to form a better idea of what your finished design may look like.
Mason Jar Organizers
Mason jars have become a real trend for upcycling purposes and now’s your chance to put them to good, organizational use in your home office. Wash, rinse and dry your mason jars and get to experimenting with painter’s tape and spray paint. Spray your jar in one uniform colour, then use your tape to block off any areas you want to remain in that colour. Cut the tape into different shapes or designs, stick them on to the jar and then use a second colour to spray it with. Once the paint has dried, remove the tape and you will be left with a snazzy looking jar with two contrasting colours and playful designs.
